Emanuel "Chris" Welch is serving his first term as State Representative of the 7th District, which includes all or portions of River Forest, Forest Park, Maywood, Bellwood, Broadview, Hillside, Berkeley, Westchester, La Grange Park, Melrose Park, Western Springs, and Northlake.

Chris Welch served on the Board of Education for Proviso Township High School District 209 from November 2001 until his election as State Representative.  Chris served as president of the 209 board from 2003 until being elected State Representative. 

In his role serving our local schools, Welch oversaw a balancing of the district’s budget for the first time in over a decade while leading efforts to create the first suburban-based magnet high school, the Proviso Math and Science Academy.

As a legislator, Rep. Welch is focused on improving classroom education, streamlining services, protecting families from foreclosures and providing safer streets in our communities.

Welch has been recognized for his work on behalf of the community, receiving the Operation Uplift Hometown Dreamweaver Award, the prestigious PLCCA Image Award, the Village of Hillside Chairman’s Award for his contributions to Human Rights issues and the Man of the Year Award from the Proviso Township Dream Team. In August 2010, Welch was named one of the top 40 Game Changers under the age of 40 by Black Enterprise Magazine and WVON AM-1690. In 2011, he was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine and Chicago Magazine.

Welch is currently a partner at the law firm of Sanchez, Daniels & Hoffman, LLP. He is married with two children.
